Flora & Fauna Pittyvaich 12 Year Old

Pittyvaich distillery was in operation for just 18 short years, with production between 1975 and 1993. It was founded by Arthur Bell & Sons solely to supply malt for their blends. It was one of the shortest-lived distilleries in the Speyside region. Pittyvaich is now demolished so the rarity of this will only increase.

After their 1988 success with the introduction of the six expressions of the Classic Malts range, United Distillers sought to capitalise on this with the release of another 22 single malts in 1991. Although not their official name, these became affectionately known as the Flora & Fauna series, due to whisky writer, Michael Jackson referencing it as the style of their labels. The idea was to showcase unappreciated distilleries from the company’s extensive portfolio at the time. The intent was to use collective branding to help them raise each other’s profiles. Despite four further additions in 2001, only a handful of these are still permanent distillery bottlings, making it a highly collectible series.
