Old Pulteney 12 Year Old.

Pulteney Distillery crafts Old Pulteney in Wick, Caithness, right on the rugged north-eastern coast of the Scottish Highlands. James Henderson founded the facility in 1826, forging a deep historical bond with the sea. During the 19th-century herring boom, isolated terrain forced the distillery to import raw barley and export finished whisky exclusively by ship.
Today, traditional dunnage warehouses face the North Sea directly. The barrels breathe salt-laden coastal air for over a decade, imparting an unmistakable maritime tang into the maturing spirit.
The bottle’s bulbous neck and heavy base mimic the distillery’s unique copper pot stills. The original wash still features a completely flat, truncated top because engineers built it too tall to fit inside the building. The distillery matures this 12-year expression entirely in air-dried, hand-selected ex-bourbon American oak casks.

Official Tasting Notes:

Colour: Warm, glowing gold with a rich amber edge.

Nose: Bright citrus and vanilla arrive first, then the unmistakable salt-laden air of Wick.

Palate: Honey and cream steadily deepen into ripe fruit and fresh spice. The finish is long, lively, and salted.

Finish: A long-lasting, clean, and lively finish highlighted by a faint trail of salted caramel.
