Glenlivet Captains Reserve Cognac Cask
The distillery released this expression in 2018 to honour Captain Bill Smith Grant, the great-grandson of founder George Smith. Consequently, the bottling serves as a direct tribute to his leadership through the mid-20th century. Because the Captain served bravely in France during World War I, the master blender chose a maturation style that celebrates French heritage.
This expression represents a major technical experiment for The Glenlivet.
Distillers initially age the spirit in a traditional combination of first-fill American ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry casks.
Subsequently, they move the liquid into French Limousin oak casks that previously held Cognac for a finishing period of at least six months. This new wood layers a decadent, raisin-rich luxury over the classic, creamy Speyside distillery character
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Sweet and fruity aromas of honey and apricot jam, with notes of sweet cinnamon bread and subtle sensation of spicy liquorice.
- Palate: Succulent flavours of mandarins in syrup, ripe poached pears and chocolate-dipped raisins.
- Finish: Incredibly smooth and luscious
