Singleton of Glendullan 14 Year Old – 2023 Special Release – The Silken Gown
Malt Master Stuart Morrison handled the blending process for this expression. Subsequently, he matured the core spirit in standard ex-bourbon American oak casks for fourteen years.
However, he finished the maturation process using rich Chardonnay de Bourgogne French oak casks. Therefore, this specific white wine finishing step represents a rare departure for Glendullan. The French oak interaction imparts a distinctly silky texture and elegant orchard-fruit sweetness to the classic Speyside distillery character.
Official Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: A beautiful, bright, pale straw-yellow with excellent viscosity.
- Nose: Fresh and highly fragrant overall with distinct top notes of green apple, white grapes, and delicate pear drops. Beneath this fruitiness, you find a gentle layer of buttery oak and rich vanilla paste.
- Palate: The texture is smooth, elegant, and mouth-coating, bringing an initial burst of sweet toffee, ripe yellow plums, and golden syrup. This sweetness soon balances out with an intense, warming prickle of white pepper and light baking spices.
- Finish: Medium to long, finishing remarkably clean and dry with lingering notes of crisp citrus peel, toasted oak, and a final dash of spice.
