The Balblair “Elements – Spirit of the Air” expression was matured in traditional American oak ex-bourbon casks.
During the early 2000s, ex-bourbon wood maturation was the cornerstone of Balblair’s signature profile. The choice of these casks directly complemented the “Spirit of the Air” theme, yielding a lighter style of scotch that heavily showcases:
- Creamy vanilla notes derived from the American oak wood sugars.
- Bright orchard fruitiness (like green apples and citrus) native to Balblair’s distillate, left unmasked by heavy wine or sherry influences.

- Nose: A delicate, fresh, and light aroma. It is highly approachable with prominent notes of sweet honey, vanilla, and a lively bristling of heather.
- Palate: It starts very sweet and smooth on the tip of the tongue. It exhibits an appetizing, slightly dry and firm mouthfeel with rich orchard fruits.
- Finish: A beautifully balanced and cleanly satisfying finish that builds up with a lingering, warming tinge of spice
