Port Charlotte The Peat Project

Crafted by legendary master distiller Jim McEwan around 2012, this expression showcases how the distillery’s tall, long-necked Victorian stills introduce floral elegance into a heavily peated spirit. The liquid features a heavy peat profile measuring 44 PPM (parts per million).

Bruichladdich bottled this Non-Age Statement (NAS) whisky at 46% ABV without chill-filtration or artificial colouring after maturing it fully in American oak ex-bourbon casks. The distillery officially retired this expression and packaging style in 2018 when they completely revamped the Port Charlotte core portfolio and switched to the current signature dark green glass bottles.

Tasting Notes
  • Nose: Intense peat smoke, sea spray, and coastal iodine, balanced underneath by light vanilla, black pepper, and spicy cinnamon.
  • Palate: Creamy and oily but surprisingly gentle. It features prominent bonfire ash, peat smoke, and sea salt, cut through by a distinct citrus and lemon freshness.
  • Finish: Quick to medium length with soft wood smoke, warming spice, and lingering charred oak.

Please pay special attention to the fill-level photographs. Because our bottles, corks, and seals vary in age, you must judge the liquid’s condition at your own discretion. We do not refund or exchange items due to damaged corks. Since many of our bottles are pre-owned, they show normal wear and tear. We take great care to provide clear photos of each lot. Please check these images carefully before buying to ensure the condition satisfies you.
