Grace O’Malley Dark Char Irish Whiskey
This whisky was named in honour of Gráinne Ní Mháille, the legendary 16th-century swashbuckler known as the “Pirate Queen of Ireland,” she broke all conventions of the Tudor era to become a powerful sea captain, political leader, and a fierce defender of Irish sovereignty against English colonization. The “Bald” Legend: Born around 1530 into the seafaring Ó Máille dynasty in County Mayo, she wanted to sail with her father from childhood. According to legend, when told that a girl could not join a ship because her long hair would get tangled in the ropes, she cut it all off. She earned the lifelong Gaelic nickname Gráinne Mhaol (“Bald Grace”)
