J&B Ultima Whisky
Justerini & Brooks (J&B) launched J&B Ultima in 1994 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Scottish whisky distillation (1494–1994). This bottle remains a historic, unrepeatable masterpiece because distillers can never replicate its exact formula.
The master blenders mapped the entire landscape of Scottish whisky history by combining 128 individual whiskies, comprising 116 malts and 12 grain whiskies. J&B secured aged stock from all 98 active Scottish distilleries operating in 1994. To complete the final blend, they gathered rare remaining inventory from 30 closed “ghost” distilleries, including a prized 1965 vintage Springbank.
Tasting Notes
The Nose: Crisp apple, walnut, toasted oak, honey, and subtle background peat smoke.
The Palate: A medium-bodied texture showing rich fruit, sweet treacle, and smooth oak.
The Finish: A lingering, warm conclusion accented by cinnamon and spiced oak.
