Jura 10 Year Old Legacy
The distillery aged this whisky in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. They commonly produced this 1-litre (100cl) version for duty-free and travel retail markets.
The “Legacy” Era ran from the late 1990s to 2006. Whyte & Mackay introduced this bottling after acquiring the Isle of Jura Distillery. The packaging featured sleek, dark box art. It also displayed a prominent vertical logo across the label and the word “Legacy” above the foot.
Jura whiskies from this era differ from their heavy, heavily peated Islay neighbours. Instead, they offer a much lighter, sweeter, and more approachable style. The “Legacy” release gained fame for containing much older casks than the standard 10-year-olds of that time.
Nose: Light and fresh, featuring notes of honey, vanilla, citrus zest, and soft cereal grains, with just a faint hint of sea salt and soft floral notes.
Palate: Gentle and oily on the tongue. It leads with a mild, sugary sweetness, honeyed cereals, and light fruit, followed by wood shavings and soft baking spices like ginger or aniseed.
Finish: Clean, dry, and relatively short, leaving behind a subtle warmth, herbal tones, and a distinct touch of liquorice
