Glenfiddich 15 Year old Solera Reserve
The 15 year Old Solera was released in 1998 and imitates the ageing technique used by Spanish sherry producers. Whisky from bourbon, sherry and new oak casks are added to a vat that already contains older whiskies. The same vat has never been emptied since first bottling in 1998 and has always been kept at least half-full. It is not quite a solera in the recognised tradition, but it uses the same process of marrying young whiskies in a maturing vessel that later become older and older as the whisky is bottled.
